What are microwave and convection ovens and their key differences?

Advancement of technology has taken into consideration the fast way of cooking the food by electric heaters. They are advised as a convenient way used for heating food, making popcorn and reduce manpower. Basically, there are two types of heaters used in kitchens known as microwave ovens and convection ovens.


Both the ovens do the same thing of making the food cook so many people often get confused between these two. Microwaves use its electromagnetic energy to heat up the meals fast whereas conventional ovens contain a fan that cools the hot air around it which it uses to heat up the food and also, the metallic element is embedded in top and bottom of these ovens.




Both the ovens are used to heat the food, but both have distinct functions and features. Key differences that distinguish microwave and convection oven are:-


1. Microwave ovens are used for roasting, heating and all kinds for cooking the food. On the other hand, convection ovens are considered suitable for baking the food.

2. Microwaves consume 75-80% less electricity than convection ovens.

3. Convection ovens operate at a lower temperature than microwaves.

4. The food that has a high quantity of water and fat content is cooked 25% faster in microwaves than convection ovens.

5. As convection ovens are just like traditional ovens, so it basically is used to brown, broil, roast and grill, the food and microwave ovens don't brown or broil the food.

6. Unlike microwave ovens, the convection ovens manage the nutrients and vitamins of your food.


Now, let's have a look at some pros and cons of both microwaves and convection ovens.


Microwave Ovens:



Pros:-

1. People who have less space in the kitchen then a microwave oven can be placed in the room as it comes in different sizes and is portable also.


2. Microwaves are also less time-consuming. For example, popcorns or a cup of tea can be heated up in less than two minutes.


Cons:-

1. According to dieticians, these ovens affect the nutritive value of the food.

2. You cannot use metal utensils in the microwave as it can cause fire and burst out.


Convection Ovens:



Pros

1. These ovens bake more than a single item together. The radiant heat will not be blocked if many items are put together.

2. The air in these ovens is circulated in an even manner because of the fan placed in it.


Cons

1. These ovens cost much more than microwave ovens.

2. It requires different adjustments of recipes for cooking and sometimes it can lead to burnt or overcooked items.


Final saying

People should look electric heaters that consume less energy, cooks fast and is a healthier way and buy according to their need, space and time and also that fit in their kitchen it. No matter what you buy, just remember that it should not affect your health and must maintain the balance of vitamins, minerals of food.
